Online Graphic Portfolio

Good day good folks ^_^
How you all doing?

i have a HUGE dilema, it all started one dark and stormy night... ok not really. I am a graphic designer/photographer trying to make my way into web designing. i did some courses and i am on my way. But in my struggle to better myself i got stuck in a dead end job, (wont go into that)

So my question for 10 million rupees, what s the elements of a good online portfolio and where do i start, also i need advice on where to go and what to do...
I'm going to start from scratch so anything will help.

Oh boy! A topic I can really get into!

First off, what exactly do you plan to design? Are you a toon artist, logo, headers, complete website, paysite, mainstream, adult, childrens, wiki design, etc? I mean there are SOOOO many variables!

Are you designing templates, tours, blogs?

Do you use CSS/tableless design, or are you an old school tables lover?

Do you design flash? Flash video, puzzles, games, etc?

How bout java?

Are you up to date on flv? Do you design and create custom flv players for embedded videos?

Tell me what you do! :)

Trust me you'll get tired of my endless questions and ideas ... i have a gift of making a simple question into a philosophy sesion :)

your going to send me into overload here X_x

all those things i have to get into, i know the minimal about all that, what i do know is a bit of css and html, if i was given code i can disect it... but i cant write it myself... i need to start off with my own site first, its going to serve as a introduction to what can do.. something i can use as both a means of creating awarenes of what i do (so i can use it along side my cv) and also as a practise site...

so i have to show that i can do it all... i have to start with a basic layout, and then i need coding help aswell...

my main idea is to make it interactive, the universal language of images ^_^

Hmm well if thats the case and you arent really into coding your own site (coding and design do NOT go hand-in-hand, btw) then just use something simple for CMS like joomla.

Or you can use a simple gallery maker like Arles or Arylia.

Or, you can make a basic template and just throw crap on a page and link it and call it "art" heh

Re: Online Graphic Portfolio

i think i was cursed with to much diversaty ^_^ or i'm a sucker for punishment... but i want to know about code... arty code (hope i wasnt being blasphemious there) just kidding

i know the two are worlds apart, i'm really still new to the whole coding thing, (doing part time studies)
thats why i'll grasp at every opertunity and bug everyone that can help me and teach me anything.

the easy way will be to get a template and throw info in there, but i wont learn much from it.

it might take longer but it would be worth it in the end right...
