Re: Can police track a FaceBook message back to my computer?

my husband has full custody of his 9 year old daughter. He has had custody since she was born. We have been together for 6 years, and the mom has visitation whenever she feels like she wants to. She has threatened me, and told people untrue things about me and they have threatened me.
Well, a few days ago, she made a fake facebook with my name and pictures and messaged herself threatening herself pretending that it was me that has threatened her. She is now trying to get a protective order against me so that I cant be around the child that lives with us and if I do, I go to jail. She deactivated the fake facebook now, So I cant even find it to report it to facebook. When we go to court (I am getting an attorney for this because she has gone to far this time) is there a way I can prove it wasn't really me who sent it? Or am I just totally screwed because she is insane? (trust me, I understand how crazy this sounds, but if you knew her, you would understand)

These are questions for your attorney, not a bunch of strangers on the internet.

"I want to sleep with You"?

Hello 15 days ago, I said a girl I want to sleep with you. She said me I will complain to cybercrime department. Now I'm afraid of it because the cyber laws are very strict. Next day I say sorry for that act. and immediate deleted my facebook account permanently. Now tell me can police arrest me just for one sentence?

If you are in the United States, you have nothing to worry about. If you are not in the U.S., then depending on where you are, they might saw your hands off.

So, I sent an image from a fake facebook account to a friend. The friend doesn't know it was me. The image was one i shouldnt have sent. The friend has complained to the police.
I have now blocked the friend from the fake account and deactivated it. It is also now marked for deletion.
What the friend (and the police) have is screen shots.
The police can't the fake account and so not able to specify the user is to Facebook.
Can they just ask Facebook for details of the accounts that messaged my friend and thus get my IP address?
Is it as easy as that? How long might it take?

Facebook can easily provide your IP address to the Police..
But here is what you have to ask yourself: What laws have been broken?
The police will only care if you have broken the law, and even then, they arent going to bother unless those laws were serious.
So IF, you broke some serious laws, the police will have to make a request to Facebook, and Facebook can provide your IP address.. But, the IP address is useless..
The police now have to get a court order/subpoena to force your ISP to tell them who you are.

Seriously, unless you have threatened President Trump or that photo you sent breaks some other SERIOUS laws, the police wont care.

I live in the UK. It was a nude photo of someone else. It was a one off. Prank gone wrong. It's that serious?

Does it violate any laws?

I expect so. But here are the positives. It was not meant to cause distress so it's not revenge porn. There were no threats, bullying or comments. It was a single image shared privately between adults. It's just that the recipient didn't want to get it. So it's possible harassment.
