"Portscan"

I've read that Portscan is a program that tries to get inside a person's computer and get the person's passwords and all kind of personal stuff. I got a warning from Nortons about a Portscan attack while clicking on a myspace page. My question is, could this Portscan attempt have been engineered (so to speak) by the myspace user whose page I had clicked on, or is it just some unknown third party? Thanks to everybody in advance.

I would like to see that page - that would be a new one.

PM it to me just to keep other members safe...favor.

A port scan won't steal your passwords - it will just look for open ports for the end user to then use known vulnerabilities to try and steal your passwords.

If you worried about having open ports try this site for a legitimate port scan.

Use "Shields Up".

Yes thanks for the site. I never really thought about people hacking into my computer.

Most likely a bot inbeded into a "Free" Page design.

If you search Myspace Extensively, for whatever reason, and you come along a lot of sites using "Free Page Designs" you definately should run Spybot S&D or Adaware after every Session and your Antivirus every other Day.

Like any Social gathering spot, Myspace is a breediong ground for Social Diseases both real and virtual...lol

Took the words right out of my mouth. Of course I met my current LTR there, so it isn't all bad.

Just wanted to add that "Shields Up" is only good for incoming connections, or how your computer is seen form the internet. It's good to try with the firewall set to off, at least once.

For outbound connections, I still recommend this utility:

Once downloaded, click on "open ports". If you see something funky that has established communication with the outside world - you may want to check it out.

You mean a bot embeded into a free page layout??? Damn! I use one free page layouts services.

And actually, the website where this layout is stored (myspaceflakes) hasn't been working since at least yesterday. I guess I need to change the layout soon, but I was trying to avoid this cause of the new captcha thing that is suspected as the reason some trackers are no longer working.
