Puget Sound Energy Email Virus / Scam

Be on the lookout for this "Bill" from Puget Sound Energy.  I can't imagine that there are that many Puget Sound Energy customers out there to fall for infecting themselves with this virus so I wonder how many non Puget Sound Energy customers get infected out of curiosity.

Here is the text of the email:

The email "bill" looks very real:

Puget Sound Energy Fake email

The email contains an attachment named PSE Paperless Bill Notification_992684207.ZIP which no doubt contains something bad and the clickable links go to http://cl.exct.net.

The link to cl.exct.net also contains what appears to be tracking information so if you click on one of the links, the scammers may be able to know it was you (based on your email) and could possibly follow-up with additional emails or they may save or even sell your email address as a "good" target that likes to click on things in emails they receive.

This is NOT real!  If you receive this bill notification email from Puget Sound Energy even if you are a Puget Sound Energy Customer, do NOT open the attachment!  This email is fake and the attachment contains a virus or trojan horse program.

No legitimate company will ever email zip attachment.
