Re: Raccoons,,,ergh!!!!

Budders (my 9 year odl) would love to pee in he yard...even just to say he did! I have heard the red pepper idea from someone because we had a digging dog too so I'll try that!

I'm goin to look for the spray repellent but I think I'll pass on finding a wolf :)

Thanks for the site!

I'd try 's suggestion w/the crushed red pepper before I spend money on something.  It makes sense, it's the primary ingredient in mace (don't leave home w/out it!) and it's effective in dogs, even deer.

I'd totally adopt a wolf.

My sister had trouble with them breaking into her garbage, she picked up some supersonic noisemaker thingamajig, I guess you could edge your property with them....

LOL that would be awesome, especially if you had rotten neighbors. Nothing like a siren going off at 3am to make you wet the bed!

Re: Raccoons,,,ergh!!!!

Where my mom and her husband used to live (wooded and suburban) raccoons dropped down from trees and ate their shingles and eventually part of the roof.  He would trap them in the same wire cage shown in this thread and since it's illegal to discharge a firearm there, he would kill the ones he caught with a crossbow while they were in the cage.  The raccoons were still rappelling onto the roof when they moved out.  If I had known about it, I would have had him try cat repellent.

Re: Raccoons,,,ergh!!!!

We have raccoons... there was a family... a baby raccoon is the most adorable thing you've ever seen... I put out cat food for them... I think they're kinda cool...

We also had a family of possums... baby possums are cute too... one still comes around.. it scared me last week... it ran under a car right next to mine... I got into my passenger side and climbed over... I was afraid it was going to attack my feet, and I was in flipflops... so that would suck...

Anyway... my only suggestion is to maybe put food out so they have something to do other than dig up your lawn...

Re: Raccoons,,,ergh!!!!

We have raccoons at my mom's house.  Never seen a baby one, just the big ones.  They eat my mom's trash.  My brother and my dad hit them with pellets with the sling shot.  Unfortunately, I don't live there, so I can only stop my family from doing that when I'm there.  :(  Poor raccoons...

I can't believe how easy it is for some of you to talk and laugh about killing animals. It is upsetting, to say the least, and, are you kidding me...they mess up your grass?!!? That's some sorry stuff right there!...juliek

Re: Raccoons,,,ergh!!!!

I can't kill things (okay spiders are an exception) but I want them to go away. Raccoons are very mean and I have kids and animals so if they want to come in our property then they are going to get a fight. I don't want them dead...I want them gone. I know the damage they can do a person/animal if you come upon them unexpectedly. Mr.Pants has taken more than enough 911 calls about vicious attacks. So if I have to choose between my family and raccoons it's bye bye 'coons!

Digging up the grass is just the beginning of things they will do looking for food. We have to keep our turtles in right now because they will eat them right out of their shell.

Re: Raccoons,,,ergh!!!!

I don't think anyone was talking about families being threatened by hordes of raccoons, I'm just referring to the callousness which was evident in the remarks. Of course if it was my kid being threatened the raccoon would have to go, too. I'm not looking for an argument, here. Just expressing an opinion.
