"Reality" TV... blaaahh

Talk amongst yourselves.  I'll give you a topic.  Reality TV is neither reality nor good TV.  Discuss.

heh.. My wife watches all of them she can find.  When I come in the room while she has one on, she'll put it on pause because she knows i'll make fun of it.

Her latest one was this show where these chefs were competing.  I saw some of it from the doorway.  The one that got voted off sat in a corner and cried.  A crying male chef. Smile

okay i cannot believe i'm admitting this, i was once into the bachelor and bachelorette series. guilty of watching the osborne's when it first launched. but to save face, never got caught up in the survivor or big brother or tila-the-attention-whore krap. *gee....i hope my own ratings don't go down due to this confession!*

Okay I don't watch Survivor or Big Brother either...nor do I watch the ones on MTV.  Just can't deal with it.  But I loved Dog the Bounty Hunter soooo much.  And America's Next Top Model.  And sometimes I watch Hell's Kitchen.  Oh and Ghosthunters which is sort of a reality show.  Love it.  So yeah, I dig reality shows.  Eek!  Embarassed

Dont forget that MTV invented reality TV with "Real World" - You know, the one with Puck and Pedro? I loved that show, but by season 3, everyone was fake and just there to get famous..
The first two seasons of Survivor were cool, and the contestants seemed genuine.. but, after around season 3, everyone was just there to get famous, and the producers seemed to go out of their way to put people on that wouldn't get along and create drama, etc..
..it's like the shows just turn into Jerry Springer after a while.

there was one show on SpikeTV called "Joe Schmoe" - it was a 'fake' reality TV show, where everyone was in on the gag EXCEPT poor "Joe Schmoe" - THAT was one of the best shows ever - and the guy that was "Joe Schmoe" really showed that there are still a FEW good, decent human beings out there..

EDIT: Upon reflection, i think technically COPS was the first reality TV show.. and "Emergency 51" was probably a pre-cursor to that.. Maybe someone needs to research and post a timeline of reality TV :-)

Yes you're so right Hubby!  Totally forgot about that and I also watched The Real World back in the day.  I just can't watch the ones that are on now.  That and that Tiqula one, etc...everyone is just so ridiculous.  Gives me a headache.

totally spaced out the not so real "real world." i did watch a few seasons and how it started was i was channel surfing and stopped there when i seen one of the cast member spouting off and i liked her hair. so i started watching to see what she would next. then i ended up getting the same cut. she had style. i won't mention which series, but i totally dug it.

i enjoy watching reality tv shows.  even the ones i hate.  like i cant really stand idol but i watch it.  an ex girlfriend got me hooked on the real world and i dont think i missed a season, but i miss the coral days, she was scary.  rock of loves great, surreal life is cool depending upon the cast.  i saw a couple episodes of bad girls where two girl pretend fought down by the beach, it was funny.  oh and like a moth to a flame i check out sunset tan and kardashians.  those sisters shouldnt be allowed to speak theyre such idiots, in a sweet harmless, card carrying member of the short bus club, way.  lol.

but the most enjoyable way to see all these shows in half an hour is to watch The Soup with Joel McHale.  Laughing
