ROAD TRIP!

So, I'm planning to go on a cross country road trip this summer by myself. I've never gone away for an extended time alone, but I feel like I need some serious "me" time to try to find myself and some quality relaxation time.

Anywho, I post this to start getting some ideas as to where I want to go. I'm starting in north Georgia, and don't really know where to go, may it be up toward Maine or West to Cali... I've really never seen much in the US besides the southern states, so... I'd love some suggestions! I'd also love to meet some GuG peeps along the way!

So, where should I go?

Re: ROAD TRIP!

Try to go to the old route 66 spots. they are so fun, strange, and nostalgic. There are websites that will help you plan a route around the old route 66. When you get to Cali come up north and visit me and AE!

Re: ROAD TRIP!

This is a strong consideration for me. I'd love to hit the road on a legendary road. Perhaps I could make a run north toward New York and that area, then over to Washington, down to Cali, and come back on route 66.

And I can cook again! Haha. I'll share my culinary skills all over the US. :P

Re: ROAD TRIP!

The drive from Washington to California is amazing. Start in Seatle of course. The Oregon coast is beautiful, and you can hit up some of my favorite Northern CA spots such as Mendocino, or Bodega Bay (ever see Hitchcock's The Birds, it takes place and was filmed here) on your way to San Francisco (my fave city) then to sac and lake tahoe. I wouldn't miss Santa Cruz (The Lost Boys was filmed there) before heading to Southern CA. Carmel CA should also be on your list. I'll let one of our Southern Cali GUGS take it from here.

Re: ROAD TRIP!

Definitely go in that direction, Carmel.  Zoo Keeper is best to add here.   But every year when I was in grade school we traveled to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.  So much that I practically named all the fishies. I still go, it's the best.  The city itself is beautiful and there is so much to see too.  And if you love literature then most likely you will not want to miss out on the National Steinbeck Center.  What is cool, and I think they still do this, is the free Trolley in the summertime.  That comes in very handy :D

Now that I think about it....some don't usually like this idea.  But if you really want to see California at it's best, I'd consider the PCH way.  I've done a bit of that from Monterey to Cambria and all I can is WOW, it was amazing. It was beautiful.  This is a bit of the 1 you'll see too, this is in Capistrano Beach, Dana Point, where we always stay.  Not too far from Anaheim or also known as The Happiest Place on Earth.

San Francisco though <3  Don't miss out on San Fran :)

Well you won me over at the homemade BBQ! Haha. I might be dotting all over the country! How exciting!

Re: ROAD TRIP!

I just saw you wrote in the summer, so yeah you'll miss the rodeo.   But they do have some delicious BBQ restaurants with awesome brisket and potato salad.  mmmm..with sliced pickles, onions and jalapenos on the side....all swished down with some ice tea.    Oh, geez... I'm starving now...
