San Antonio, Texas

Welcome to San Antonio!!!

San Antonio's tourist trap is the River Walk... I guess if you come here you have to see it, but it's really overrated and dirty... and all the places connected to it (bars, restaraunts, etc) are overpriced... but here are a few places you can hit up after you do that:

River Walk: This is the non-busy part of it... over near River Center mall is where all the business is at...just put it here because I have to...

Tower of the Americas - Tourist attraction... but it's one of those things you gotta go see if you're in San Antonio... the highest point in San Antonio... it's a big elevator that takes you up 750 ft to the... building I guess is what it is..  prices vary depending what you do... the outside circumferance is an observation deck... the restaraunt in the building is pretty expensive so I've heard... you can check out their website: toweroftheamericas.com... and here's a photograph... (by the way, I almost had a heart attack going up that stupid elevator since you can see outside)

SAMA (San Antonio Museum of Art) - I love this place... but it's easy to get lost in...

McNay Art Museum - much smaller than SAMA, and not anywhere near as much artifacts, but it's nice, has GORGEOUS scenery (a lot of weddings take photos there)... just a nice vibe... It's also technically 'free' but they suggest a 5 dollar per person donation... and there's people standing there... so I would just assume it's 5 a person lol

Ice and Golf Center at Northwoods - If you want to go Ice Skating...... which is a nice alternative to being in the awful heat... northwoodsice.com

Six Flags Fiesta Texas - Your typical six flags, with a great free water park (during the Summer)

Sea World - I think I'm only going to mention this since I think there's only 3 locations in the U.S.

North Star Mall - I only put this here for those interested in shopping, because the River Walk has River Center Mall which is pretty worthless... North Star is *the* best mall here...

Natural Bridge Caverns - is actually right outside of San Antonio, but it's pretty cool if you're into the whole stalagmites stalagtites thing... it's underground and really humid so I suggest a humidity-friendly hairstyle... and right next door they have the Wildlife Ranch... you can buy some food, and you drive through the area, and see lots of animals... zebras, emus, llamas... etc... I don't remember prices for either

Also, the North East side of San Antonio is only an hour away from Austin... where 6th Street is if you want to *really* party... but San Antonio has plenty of clubs, bars, theaters etc...... I think the North East is probably a good place to shack up in a hotel anyway, since it's not as overpriced, busy, confusing, etc... unless you were looking to be in the middle of a busy city...

i lived in san antonio for a short spell. love it. even learned their talk. ie:

pop was called sodawater

store or convenience mart was called the ice house

tostada there is called flauta (i think that was it)

now this was back in the early 80's. so it may have changed.

Ice House and SodaWater are still used by old people...  Soda is pretty much referred to as Coke... no matter what you're drinking, it's a coke...

I thought flautas were taquitos... Tostadas are Chalupas...

Re: San Antonio, Texas

My ex used to love that... I don't know if it's the 'it' thing to do... maybe among the daywalkers........ not for me though... I hear the comal is better than the guadalupe... but I think it all depends on how low the rivers are that year due to the lack of rain................ *shrugs* I haven't been on the river since I was like 10 maybe...

I've always wanted to go to San Antonio. Maybe when Hubby gets a business trip to go over there in the near future I will tag along!! I've never been to six flags and I would love to go. We have one 6 hours away from home but haven't gone yet.

When I was in SA a few months ago I thought the Mission Trail and the murals on the west side were interesting.
