'Search iPhone feature'

My husband gave me his iPhone phone to use for the day while my phone was being repaired. I have never used an iPhone before and am not very technically inclined. A screen somehow came up on the screen with a search field and a keypad and a random letter went into the search field. With this populated a list of things (I assume on the iPhone). With that by a little icon of an envelope were over 10 or so emails from a dating website of girls requesting to be friends. When I clicked on this it went into his email inbox, spun around but did not actually bring up the email.

Here are my questions: My husband got this phone AFTER our marriage, before I talk to him I would like to know something about this.

1. Does the search iPhone feature populate content that was sent to that particular iPhone or could it be attached to the SIM card and thereore be very old emails from over 3 years ago?
2. If the search iPhone feature brings up these emails does that mean they have to be somewhere in the phone and are just hidden? In other words, if you delete emails from your inbox will they still show up in the search iPhone feature?

Thank you, I just want some technical facts about how this works as he knows I do not know anything about technology.

Re: iPhone search

You can't bring email messages into an iPhone with the SIM card, so that has nothing to do with it. However, the iPhone search can search all old/saved emails stored in the email account and all email account folders. So, for example, if his iPhone is configured to use his Gmail, and his email has a bunch of old saved emails in various folders, the iPhone would be able to search those. Whatever is searchable on the iPhone is also searchable by going to into the email account from another program or the web-interface of that email service (i.e.; gmail.com, yahoo.com, live.com)..

So, for sure those emails are stored in the email account - the only way to know for sure how old or new they are is to open and view one either from the iPhone, or by logging in to the email service from another program or on the website.

Re: 'Search iPhone feature'
Would you have any ideas why when I clicked on all these emails it would launch his yahoo inbox (that he was signed into) the loading circle would spin but the email would not actually be found it would just launch the main page of the inbox. Can folders be hidden?

Search Yahoo mail on iPhone

When you say "yahoo inbox", are you referring to a mailbox or folder in the Mail.app or the yahoo.com webpage/inbox?

Re: Search Yahoo mail on iPhone
On the iPhone under network there is a MAIL icon and when you press it opens up the yahoo inbox when you you press the word YAHOO ou can then also bring up all the yahoo email folders. These emails are nowhere in there. When I am in search iPhone and press on the email the screen changes to the Yahoo inbox screen and the bottom states:checking for mail but it just stays on the main inbox screen.

Re: Search Yahoo mail on iPhone

i have two iPhones and an iPad here in front of me and none of them have any mail icons in the network settings so i don't know what is going on with that iPhone (is it jail broke? if so, there is no telling what is going on or what's on it).

The search you are describing sounds like the standard Mail App when you tap it - if it says checking for mail but then it doesn't show/find it, all i can guess is that search has found a local/cached remnant of a message or folder but when you tap it, it can't find it or can't connect to the yahoo mail server.. or.. something.. honestly, from your descriptions i'm not even sure..
