Severe case of the Monster In Law

Hello my GUG's!!

Its been a while since I've posted, so I'm happy to be back..

Alright, well this has been bugging me for quite some time now, so I figured I wanted to know what everyone else thought on this.

My boy-friend (of 5 years) and I recently bought a place, things are great between us, BUT his mother is a different story. She comes to my house like if she owns the place. She doesnt bother ringing the doorbell and waiting for someone to open the door, she opens the door and just walks in. I find her in my fridge arranging EVERYTHING and lecturing us about were the pots go & stuff... She walks into my bedroom WHILE IM STILL IN BED, sits on the bed to have a chat with her son! She comes to my house unnannounced at the most random times... If my boyfriend doesnt anser  his cell phone, she calls the house phone a million times and leaves voicemails ("its mommmmm,.... answer the phone.... hellooo... hellooo..) I even noticed that she snooped in one of our credit cards bill. I haven't told her anything about it directly because she is the type of person that takes everything WRONG and turns it into a big argument, and when I tell the boyfriend about it, he thinks I'm overreacting. Now, I understand the boyfriend is her youngest son, but still theres a point in life when you have to let go! Did I mention they work together also?!!?

I have nothing constructive to add other than to ask if you've ever seen the TV show "Everybody Loves Raymond" ?

Might I suggest a lot of locks??

If it were me, and I had no intentions of telling the MIL to back off, I'd probably just put a true lock on my bedroom door (one that needs a key) and keep it locked... and keep mail or other personal items that she needn't be snooping around in the bedroom... and even locking the bedroom when you leave the house (I would maybe wonder if she comes over when you two aren't home)...

And I'd probably just let her have her way with the pots/pans/fridge...

When she asks why it's locked while you're in there, a simple 'for privacy' should suffice, or maybe tell her you're a scaredy cat and it helps you sleep better... if she finds out that it's locked when you're not home, tell her you keep valuables in there and don't want to make it easy if someone ever breaks in.... and then ask why she's trying to go in your bedroom when you're not home...

If you play the offended one, she can't.

I'd say just get an alarm system, but she sounds the type to demand the code, or at least the type to easily get it from her son since he doesn't seem to see what she's doing as invasive.

Your boyfriend needs to have a chat with his Mom, but that is easier said than done. I agree with Animes, you should lock the door and she should not have a key!

Re: Severe case of the Monster In Law

She doesnt have the key to my house (thank gawd).. We just forget to lock the front door in the afternoons when we are home, and when it is locked, I can still hear her go straight to open the door (rather than knocking) only to find it is locked. Good Idea on the locks... The only bad thing is that the master bedroom has two entrances one through the bathroom (the bathroom can be accesed from the living room or from my bed room) and the other from the regular room door...  I try to keep all of the doors closed when anyone comes over since my bedroom carpet is very light... She doesnt care.. She's just soo used to doing whatever the hell she wants.. This lady is cooo cooo this isin't even the begging of how cooo coo she is..  Recently, she signed the boyfriend and I to a 4 day seminar to better our-selfs!! So now insted of spending my weekend relaxed.. I'll be at a dumb seminar all day for 4 days on how I can improve my life.. ughh... Is there a seminar where I can send her on How to GET a Life?!?!? hummm....
