What software do I need for my computer?

Microsoft Windows 95/98/M.E./2000/XP comes with only basic built-in capabilities. Before you can do anything beyond reading email or standard text editing you will need to purchase and install software for whatever task you want to accomplish. If you're lucky, the manufacturer of your computer may have included full versions of some programs, but most likely you either have no add-on software or only trial or demo versions.

What is Word?

Word, or Microsoft Word is one of the most popular Word Processing programs on the planet. With Microsoft Word you can create professional looking letters, newsletters, and more. Most large companies have standardized on Microsoft Word for Windows. If you bring a Word document home from the office, you must have Word installed on your PC before you can edit it.

What is Excel?

Excel, or Microsoft Excel is the best selling and most popular spreadsheet program on the market today, and is arguably the best. Excel is a spreadsheet program that can be used to do everything to your checkbook to budgets. Most companies use Excel for all financial documents. If you bring home an Excel file from your office, you must have Excel installed on your PC in order to edit it.

What is Outlook

Microsoft Outlook is an eMail program, contacts manager, calendar and more. Do not confuse Outlook with Outlook Express which is included with Microsoft Windows.

Microsoft Outlook is a full-fledged eMail, Contacts, Calendar program that integrates with big-business email systems. Outlook express is a simple eMail reader better suited for home use.

What is PowerPoint?

What is Microsoft Access?

Microsoft Access is a relational database program. With Access you can create advanced databases with menus, forms, and other advanced features.

What is Microsoft Office?

Microsoft Office is a suite (package) of Microsoft's business programs, most of which are listed above. Depending on the version, Microsoft Office usually includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Most of the programs listed above are quite pricey. It's no wonder Microsoft is one of the largest companies in the world and Bill Gates (founder of Microsoft) is the richest man in the world! Although many people hate to admit it, most companies rely on Microsoft and their Office Applications to run their business. Although still not cheap, you can usually find great prices and deals for these (and other) programs on the internet, and usually less expensive than purchasing the same software at a local retailer.
