My Sony Vaio Will Not Start up
My Sony vaio laptop will not boot up. When I start the computer up I get a screen with the Vaio log in the center of the screen with a smal logo in right bottom corner that says H2O BIOS. This switches with a black screen. Just keeps going back and forth between the two. Any ideas how to get this to boot? Thank you.

Those Vaio's are known junk. Just search this website for "Vaio" and you'll see dozens of posts from people trying to resurrect their dead pieces of Sony garbage.

You might see if you can download a bootable diagnostics program and see if that points you in any particular hardware-related direction. You could also try to boot up from you Windows CD (they gave you a Windows disk with that crap-box, right?). If it's not a hardware issue, Windows may be able to recover itself - just read the screen and follow the directions. Surely you have anything you care about backed-up, so you have nothing to lose.

Good luck to you, you're going to need it.

I can't say this is the problem without much more information, but try removing the battery and plug into outlet. I've been using my 7yr old Vaio now for more than 2 years without battery. (NOBODY- even SONY) has a battery for it.

PLEASE DO NOT GIVE UP ON HA VAIO!

I have a Sony VAIO I bought while I was driving 18 wheeler OTR in the US in 2008. Imagine the abuse and punishment it got bouncing around in that "big truck" for more than 1 year before coming here to the Philippines and then another year of substandard care until I had a similar problem.
When I finally took it to a "Highly reputable repair facility" and was informed it had a virus and hard drive would need to be re-formatted and new software installed.
They (the reputable repair facility) formatted my hard drive (removing VISTA-- which I had become used to and sort of fond of) and replaced it with a bootleg copy of windows 7. That worked OK for several months (so long as I was plugged into an outlet). When the battery began getting VERY HOT I removed it and only then discovered it worked quite well without the battery and began kicking myself firmly in the a_ _ .
That Sony Vaio is STILL IN SERVICE AND OPERATING WELL WITHOUT A BATTERY TODAY.
