Stereotype. I'm guilty. Are you?

After watching an actor perform in an amazing role, from that moment on that actor will forever be stereotyped into that role for me. Unless he or she takes on a new role that is far superior or can change my since formed image of them. I rarely see that happen though. Example and point. Jack Nicholson. A ladies man. A mans man. Incredible in any role. But I cannot shake his image in my head from The Shining. Another: Matt Damon will always be a Jason Bourne person, not Good Will Hunting. As Al Pacino will always be Scarface, not the Rain Man.

Who have you stereotyped into a permanent role or persona?

Tony Soprano

This poor guy will ALWAYS be Tony Soprano, no matter how hard he tries to be anything/anyone else.

Yeah, Tony Soprano it is! I can't picture him in any other role.

I have to admit I'm guilty of typecasting as well. It's like that guy from "Napoleon Dynamite." Even in "Blades of Glory" he played a quirky character - I just can't ever see him playing a serious role or a hot leading man in a romantic film. Poor guy will always be cast in silly comedies in my opinion.

I only have this problem with long running series....

Boy Meets World cast..... Eric, Cory, Topanga, Shawn... and of course FEENY... even when I hear Feeny's voice on some animated whatever... it's still Feeny...

Gilmore Girls... Lorelai, Rory, Luke, Jess, Logan..... everyone else can be whoever...

Just got into this discussion with the boyfriend, but the cast of Seinfeld will always be their characters...

As far as movies go... I kinda have a hard time transitioning with those actors that are in every other movie... I get their characters jumbled... they need to put some space between their films so my brain can take a break and hold onto the story rather than the actors...
