Toll Road$, Turnpike$, EZ Pa$$

It's official. I am am east coast road rookie. And I'm sure the entire family had the dear in the headlights look going on the entire road trip experience.

I am needing some EZPass, Turnpike, and Toll Road details, education, 'how to 1-0-1' and tips! Having just taken a trip across 3 states in 6 hours, we must have paid nearly $30 in toll fees. The family we traveled with (followed) had an EZ Pass and was able to drive right through each toll booth or turnpike booth, not sure what the difference there is exactly! I found a PA EZ Pass website, but from what I can tell it is for PA roads only. I am needing one for PA, NJ, NY, and DE....maybe D.C. or VA?

Can I get one for 4-5 states or is that a waste? Suggestions, hints, cost $aving tips would be greatly appreciated!

I'm going to guess that PA's website was unclear, and that you misunderstood.  Here's the link for NJ's EZ-Pass website.  The purple states on the map are all included in the same EZ-Pass.  Looks like it covers most of the northeast, except for Ohio (because they're weird), and VT and CT (because they're "non-toll states").  I know I've driven from NJ to DC with mine and never had to fish for change during the trip.

Were you driving up the NJ Parkway?  The Parkway blows, there are toolbooths SMACK IN THE MIDDLE of the road!!!  At least the Turnpike has the decency to tuck them away on the exit ramps, rather than tying up traffic at random.

yes, we were on the parkway that blows apparently. on the way back we took a different route than our friends as the dad broke an ankle skiing so they headed a different direction. the roads we took on the way back were scenic and i think we went around the city maybe? we didn't see NY City skyline on the way back, but did on the way there.

i experienced a huge learning curve on the PA site. then, husband of mine was firing off questions as if he were a semi automatic. AND i couldn't answer any. i just hate it when that happens. your link with 'pictures' was 100% dead on what HE was looking for. that's it! next time....i'm having him call or text you. *that's your official warning* so if you see another (602) on your phone, it's him!

and a huge THANK YOU for your help Lady.C!

Not a problem.  I drive past the EZ-Pass office in Newark fairly often (it's on the way to my parent's place), so let me know if you need anything, I can pop in and pick it up.
