Tracking without a MYSPACE account

I was wondering if any of these My Space profile trackers can track someone if they are viewing a profile but don't have a My Space account themself? In other words......... can a person be tracked from a source outside of My Space (just by clicking on the direct link)?
Also if the profile is marked private, can you be tracked?

If they have a tracker it can pick up your IP address.

Depends on if it is 1.0 or 2.0...

Call me stupid but is the IP address your email address?
Is there anyway to find out if they have a tracker on their profile?

No - the IP is your "Internet Protocol"(address).. every device/computer on the internet has it's own "address".. Sometimes it changes.. if you connect via a dial-up modem it probably changes every time you connect to the internet. if you have high-speed cable or DSL, it probably does not change very often (i've had only two different IP address in the last 4 years).

Your email address is, well, your email address - like 'joe@g-mail.com' ..

So I'm confused......... unless the person who is tracking knows my IP address they won't know it is me - right? Can they link your IP address up with your actual email address?

some Myspace trackers can tie your IP address to your Myspace account IF you visit someone's myspace page while logged-in to your Myspace account.. But because of the nature of IP addresses changing, they arent always accurate..
Someone might be able to INFER that it's you if they know where you are located because you can usually look up the general geographic location of an IP address.. so if they know you are in say, Alaska, and they see a lot of hits from an IP in Alaska, they may put 2 and 2 together.

The only way they could link your IP to your email address would be if you sent an email to them, since many times it is possible to get the originating IP address from an email (depending on many things, it's not always possible)..

Re: Tracking without a MYSPACE account

So basically what you are saying is that it isn't likely that they would know it was me looking at their My Space profile if I don't have a My Space account - right?
I was looking at my ex-boyfriends profile on My Space quite a bit & I was concerned he knew. He recently made his profile private to "non-friends" & I was afraid that he did that so I couldn't view his profile! Is there any way to know if he has a tracker on it?
Thank you ever-so much for all your help!!!!!!!!

There isn't a way to check if they have gone private as far as I know.

Yes. You don't have to have a myspace account to get your IP tracked. If you hit any area of a myspace profile that has a tracker in it and you are not properly blocking that tracker - then yes you will be tracked.

A person may have their own website that does IP logs and if they link their site on their page and you click on it - you can easily get tracked that way.

That part is a little tricky. For the most part - no you wouldn't be tracked unless they have a working tracker in their headline because you have to see the area that has the tracker in order to get tracked. Recently that is usually only possible on private 2.0 profiles since private 1.0 profiles don't show the headline area to people who are not on their friends list. But here is the tricky part - someone could have their profile marked private but allow people to view their blogs or pictures - but the blogs or pictures may have trackers in them. Or they may allow their blurbs to show and they could have a tracker code in their profile. Lately on myspace - private profile has taken on a new meaning. A true private profile has everything locked down - not just parts of it.
