urgent query

ok so I have a friend that has been checking out this guys myspace page, all of a sudden he has stopped emailing her and she is paranoid that it is because he can see the amount of hits she has made to his page. I've entered his friend id into hideinthesky and it sayes he has no trackers but is there any way of telling who has looked at your page?

Re: urgent query

Use firefox with all the addons (myspacemozilla, adblock--with filter list, etc. greasemonkey) list and check out his page. That way you will know for sure if he even has a tracker.

There is a forum called "how to block trackers" on GuG.

Re: urgent query

so there is a possibility he does have a tracker even though it hasn't shown up on hideinthesky.com???????????? god this isn't good news for me either - how embarrassing!

Re: urgent query

Hideinthesky is awesome, but I have read about it saying that there are no trackers on some profiles--but in reality there are trackers on the profiles. There is a reason for it, but not really sure what it is yet. All in all, hideinthesky is useful in my opinion.

Also, I think that when you use hideinthesky that it will add profile views to the person's profile view counter. (not necessarily a big deal, except some myspace viewers find it odd to get mysterious profile views to their profile-when the views are not followed by message or comment.)

I still suggest that you use firefox, myspacemozilla, adblock-with filters, and greasemonkey. (this gets you the upperhand on myspace, and you will know without a doubt if there are trackers on profiles)

When you press the Adblock icon (or Ctrl + Shift + B if you have removed the icon from your toolbar as I have) the list that loads is a list of ALL items that CAN be blocked on the page (this includes images, links, stylesheets, ads, etc). Most of the items on the list you see are black, meaning that they are not being blocked. The ones in red ARE being blocked. It shouldn't be hard to identify which one is your tracker. Scan the Address column for the red items - one should exactly match a section of your tracking code in both instances.

When looking at another person's page and scanning the red items on the Adblock window, you just have to be familiar with what trackers are out there and it is easy to know what is a tracker and what isn't. If you aren't sure, right click on blocked item and select Copy Item's Address. Then, try searching just the domain of the address to see if that site is a tracking site. Or, to get more familiar with the trackers that are out there, scan through this list (http://www.grownupgeek.com/how-to-block-myspace-tracker) from time to time.

If you are still unsure about how to scan his page, you can send the address to me or message me the source code from the page and I will look at it for you.

Re: urgent query

I usually place my cursor over the red adblock thing at the top right of the page (it kind of looks like a stop sign). Then a box will appear telling me the things that have been blocked. The other method of clicking on the "stop sign" works as well--but I am not familiar with it because I always do it the other way.

Myspacemozilla does the following:

Features include:

  • Log in once. Then be told of any new notifications from myspace even if you arent on the myspace site.
  • Logo on the bottom of your browser changes color to draw your attention to the fact that you have a new notification.
  • A text item will appear alongside the logo to tell you if you have new mail, new comments (or both!) etc.
  • Tracks the posts you have made in the forums and keeps you updated if you get any replies.
  • Anti-Phishing system built in to prevent people from trying to con you out of your username and password.
  • Tracker warning system to let you know if a person has a tracker on their profile.
  • Protects you against worms on MySpace.
  • Inbuilt MySpace Forum search. Not available on the official MySpace site.
  • Do a search through your friends list, alphabetically, top to bottom, bottom to top. OR search by the first letter of their name. You choose!
  • Find out who has you in their Top 8 friends list!
  • Scan your friends list for any worms/viruses on their profile.
  • Scan your friends list for any trackers they have on their profile.

There is a post about Greasemonkey on GuG. Click here.

Hope this helps :)

EDIT: Also, you wondered what the red ones mean...the ones that are blocked appear in red.

When you place the cursor over the "stop sign" thing, it will tell you if you blocked their tracker. If you didn't block it, then it will show the name of their tracker and then you will want to add that tracker onto your adblock filter list.

Re: urgent query

oh I see god it's easy when you know how! can you be fairly confident then that if nothing comes up when you check for blocked items that they dont have a tracker? all thats coming up is ads googlessyndication or something and ad-wrapper and then some adbanner thing

Re: urgent query

I hope you got it all figured out. I was going to offer to look for you if you want a second opinion. You can send me an email with the friend ID if you want thru my contact form here. I'm at work now, I couldn't check till much later tonight.

Pat07 means to use the browser Firefox and download the following add-ons:

1. Adblock Plus (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865)
2. Greasemonkey (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748)
3. MyspaceMozilla (http://myspacemozilla.awardspace.com/)

This is to block as many trackers as possible from "seeing" your visits to Myspace profiles.
