Porn on the internet (opinion).

What is the deal with porn? It is so disgusting. Perverted people look at porn. What about the children that are flipping through channels and find a porn channel? One word. TRAUMA. I know what you are thinking the parents probably have those types of channels blocked. Some of the smart children can figure out hte codes to unlock the channels.

I don't how you receive channels (cable, satellite)  but I get no such porn channels. And I have a deluxe package digital subscription. I got like a squillion channels. Once a kid can figure out things like that it might be too late.If there's internet that's a much better source for porn than cable. It is a problem and creating a xxx domian might have been a good solution to help keep it from kids. You could just block anything from that domain. Of course with all things there is a way around everything. Good point though.

Re: Porn on the internet (opinion).

My hubby's cousin is 16 and we've had problems with this porn thing. I've tried everything to block porn sites from coming up on my computer because you get a lot of virus and what not from it. I've tried explaining this to him multiple times and my hubby did also. Plus my kids can get up at any time at night which they are 4 and 2 by all means they don't need to be seeing that. I banned him from the computer for a while. Now he needs to be supervised. As for t.v. I have parental controls. My little ones do know how to flick through channels. HBO and Showtime are big for porn later on at night but rather be safe than sorry. I do not know really I don't have older kids and i guess that comes when they are teenagers. lol

Altho, many people may find even soft core porn disgusting, it is the laws of our great constitution that allow us a voice to even say what we feel about porn, and the  that same law gives us the same right to watch it,  make it,or complain about it. Freedom of speech is becoming an endangered species. juliek

Frankly, I rather doubt that kids will be "traumatized" by happening upon porn on television. I'd be a lot more concerned about the effects of their watching movies showing people with their arms and legs blown off, or people shooting innocent people....er, but wait, that'd be the news.....WAR is "trauma"...college kids getting murdered in classrooms is "trauma".....LIFE is "trauma" ~

If porn is the only thing you ever have to worry about kids happening upon, then count your blessings...

And as for opinions ~ my opinion is that porn isn't disgusting or perverse......in MY opinion, people who generalize about other people are perverse...but then, that's the beauty of having opinions......oh yeah, and to quote one of my wonderfully perverse guy friends, "I'm all for same sex marriage, as long as both chicks are hot"

And lest anyone misconstrue my answer ~ I am NOT advocating that children watch porn, nor am I suggesting it's okay for them to watch it.

Re: Porn on the internet (opinion).

That truthful statement being said, I still agree with your original answer. Don't back down now. What is "perverse" to one is not to another. And let's not forget that standards are very different here in the states than they are in other parts of the world.

There can be a fine line between what some would call "pornographic" or "disgusting" and what another would call "erotic" or "artistic". I think that for someone to throw such a negative statement out there, a "Well, if you've ever looked at this, then you must be an inhumane, perverted, future child-molester-serial-killer!"; that is foolhardy, bigoted, self-righteous, holier-than-thou bull-pucky-rooney-toot-tooty. And I have no need for such idiocy. Stay off the internet, and turn off your TV and radio, just to be safe... you never know who may be trying to destroy your fragile little mind...

Ok, now I feel better. I also think that a little nudity is less damaging than a lot of other things. But it is certainly up to the parent (and we have some really good ones here on GuG) to decide what is best for their own children, and it is up to the parent to take the proper precautions to protect their kids from stuff on the television or the internet or anywhere else that they think is too graphic; be that violence, language, or nudity.

Now that that's done, I think I'll go look at some porn and call it a night...

Re: Porn on the internet (opinion).

Well I don't have any porn channels on my TV so my daughter is safe I guess............ but being a responsible parent if I did have porn channels I would be smart enough to use that option to password protect the channel so she wouldn't have to ask dad a bunch of akward questions

and I agree that given the choice I would rather my daughter accidentally stumbled onto porn than a program showing graphic violence

as for my opinion on porn I say as long as it legal and you are over 18 enjoy it.......in moderation of course Embarassed

I agree with Susie on this....violence on tv and in life is more damaging then porn...that being said, I don't want my kids to accidently come across my husband's stash, that's why we keep it under lock and key.....

Re: Porn on the internet (opinion).

You know what I hate. Awkward love scenes in movies. Most of the time it's only there to draw in people. It doesn't add to the movie. It's just weird. I'm much happier with movies that allude to sex. Maybe show them start to kiss and the cut to next morning or just two minutes later, haha. I don't mind the nudity, that's fine. Just blatant sex scene for no reason. Of course I have weird movie things, like avoiding theaters. Now if the sex scene fits the movie and it's not awkward then ok. That's fine. Of course the ladyfriend might not of liked 300 as much without the sex scene which included one very fit, well built King.

Re: Porn on the internet (opinion).

I remember the first season of Big Brother. Their website was bigbrother2000 and I mistyped it - bigbrother200 was a porn site that had graphic images before even entering the site. Now that's what I call offensive since kids could easily find it.

I completely agree with thedevil on this one - it's up to the parents to know what their kid is doing. I also agree with susie - violence is much more damaging than sex. And, I imagine, violence is harder to explain to a kid than "what happens between adult men and women when they love each other and want to make a baby"

thedevil came up with another good point about other parts of the world, too. Here we have a discussion about showing Bart Simpson's gentials in the movie when I just watched Footballers Wives, a UK TV series where they show breasts, butts in the locker room and even side glimpses of men frontal. We are hands down more puritanical in the US than other western nations.

We do, however, have wonderful freedom of expression in this country and freedom of choice. As much as "they" are allowed to show what they want, "we" have the right to change the channel or close our browsers.
