What! No Santa?

How many of you have asked that question as a child to your parents?

How many of you have had your own children ask you? Did you pass down the same story you were told/heard?

A few years ago, a third grader decided to tell my mini that there is no Santa. Unlike most children who would go home crying to their parents asking if it was true, she decided to do her own research on the internet. Yes, she simply typed in "is there a santa" and the first page she opened was a real eye opener. It took several days of well planned damage control by husband of mine and I explaining what we thought she should hear at that age. Yes, there is a Santa. "Stop believing....stop receiving." Once in a while she will test the waters and bring the subject up. I did my own search and came up with this site and wonder how many kids are crushed when they read it.

Share your stories on how/when you found out or how you dealt with the question as a parent yourself?

My older sisters are four and five years older. I never was given the chance to believe in Santa. As soon as they found out I did too.

Re: What! No Santa?

I've been debating telling my daughter after this Christmas. While discussing it with my best friend we both realized we had no memory of when we found out there is no Santa. I came to the conclusion that if we don't remember not believing does that mean we still believe? I say yes, we still believe in Santa. So there you have it.

My one Santa story from childhood comes from a week long visit at my grandparents house. It was around Christmas time. I was asleep on the couch. I woke up and saw "Santa" floating above me. He then ascended through the ceiling and disappeared. About a year ago my sister was talking to my wife about ghosts. She told my wife that same story. My wife came into the room I was in with my dad and told me about my sisters story. We then asked my dad if he knew of any ghosts at his parent's house. he said yes there was a ghost. He followed them there from another house. He and his other family members  had all seen him. I wish I could remember his name. Anyway my Santa Claus was actually just a full body apparition! Weird.

So I believe in ghosts and Santa. (Ok maybe just ghosts)

I don't want to die without any scars.

THERE'S NO SANTA?!?!?

If I remember right, I was 5 and we had a debate on the playground about if Santa was real or not.  Some did believe, some didn't, no one cried, meeting adjourned.  I found out on my own, the same year.  I found Santa's reply to my letter mysteriously hidden :D

Re: What! No Santa?

my parents were always diligent about not putting any gifts under the tree until xmas eve well after we were fast asleep drooling on our pillows! so when we would wake up xmas morning, bam! it was always magical. then my older siblings turned into hateful teens, probably because i was the "baby." after that, i had my doubts but never showed or mentioned it.

I don't remember when I found out, or even how.  probably from my friends at school.  I do remember realizing that if I let the cat out of the bag, and ruined Christmas for my 4 year younger sister, my parents were going to kick my arse! So there were a handful of really awkward Christmases, where I felt really stupid having to pretend for her sake, thank my parents in secret for my gifts, etc.

seems that "the news" seems to happen or be revealed by other children on the playground. i wonder if it is just kids being kids?!
