Where have you been? What have you seen?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't see any location on this travel forum directed me to that was just a general "Where have you been?" To have a travel forum, it seems like you need a place for people just to stop by and talk about all the places you have been!

I was always blessed and had the chance to travel a lot when I was younger with my father. I've visited to date: Amsterdam, France, Italy, Switzerland, England, Egypt, Greece, Austria, and Poland. The first 5 countries were when I was 15, then I picked up Egypt, Greece, Sicily (part of Italy), Austria, and Poland as a high school graduation trip. I was so blessed to be able to spend this time with my father... If any of you want details on any of these countries, feel free to reply and I would love to share stories.

So GuG, where have you been?

I have never been, but I know Hawaii is amazing... However, what specifically  about Kauai do you like Hubby?

Re: Where have you been?

I've been there several times in the last 15 years.. The thing i like the most is the "small" feeling about the whole place.. The other islands i've been to are more like 'big cities' - while Kauai is more like just a few small towns..

We usually stay in Ka'paa but we've also stayed in Poipu - and no, I havnt played the Golf Course, but I have stayed in the hotel (on our Honeymoon) .. There is a really neat 'hidden' beach that we love to go to, just outside of Princeville on the way to the caves.. it's a neat protected cove that you have to climb-down to from the road. Since you cant see it from the road, not many people know it's there so it's always empty.

Thats exactly what I loved about Sicily. It was small, but beautiful and filled with culture... At least thats what I say when someone ask, "Why Sicily?"

Re: Where have you been? What have you seen?

i havent been much places but back in '84 i think, when the olympics where in LA, i took a cross country trip in a VW van.  i went from LA up to Seatle, then along the top of the states to Chicago then down to Austin, Texas.  from there i flew back home with a stop in Denver, the scariest airport ive ever landed at with all the crosswinds.

for me the coolest experience on the trip was camping at a KOA campground in Yellow Stone.  a bear so happened to be cruising the campground.  i had a cat that i brought, in the van, all my coolers and food out on the picnic table and my family and here comes this bear running through my camp with a park ranger hot on its heels with one of those rubber pellet guns.  it all happened so fast and was so exciting.  its one of my favorite memories.

I've been told by others that Kauai is just fabulous, darhhling!

Sorry bout that, my morning caffeine is just kicking in, as well as my morning meds.Seriously, my sil lived in Kauai for about 3 years. She just loved it. I don't remember hearing her say one negative thing about it. And Hubby, she mentioned what I just now recognized. when you said there's a feeling of smallness; she talked about having the power to decide how much input from civilization you wanted. Of course, she was there 20+ years ago, so it coulda been that input was down to a minimum anyway.

SVR, man, you have traveled some, haven't you? Greece sounds very appealing to me. I picture pure white beaches and gorgeous ocean, but other than that, I know very little.

And Tuna, gtfo, tahiti!!! I am soooo jealous! Was it as beautiful as Paul Gaughin said it was?

When I was in high school we went to Spain and our hotel was on the Mediterranean Sea. All around us was new construction, so we didn't have many tourists near us. We met alot of construction workers, tho. Other than that, I have not been out of the U.S., and barely out of RI!

And Vosh, What is KOA? That is a great story. Did you get to see the olympics?

Well, time to get a refill and figure out my day...maybe...juliek

I've seen a few things, I suppose. Haha.

I went out to one of the Greek islands and pure white beaches and ocean totally exist there! Not to mention a few thousand years of history on the mainland!
