Where Will Summer Take You?

School is out in most area's and will be soon in the rest of the U.S. Traffic is noticeably lighter and takes half the time to get from point A to point B. Went to the movies this evening and surprisingly, it was not full. There were 2 other parents with their children besides myself and mini me. Now this is a mega plex with 24 screens. This time last year, the place would have been near capacity or sold out. I am thinking the economy is playing a huge roll in who can afford to do what this summer.

So where will this summer take you? Are you a new high school grad moving to the college town that accepted you and getting moved into student housing/dorm and acquainted? Are you a new college grad taking the summer off to travel Europe before Corporate America eats you alive? A foreign exchange student returning home to your country or to see your family? Or are you an educator or member of staff needing a much deserved adult getaway? Where will you go, what will you do this summer?

Looks like we're going on a mini vacation to Chicago. We'll drive there and I'm not stoked on paying for the gas but oh well.

If you have time, visit the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry....its a great place for kids...lots of hands on displays. We watched baby chicks hatch out of their shells, got nearly barfy sick on a flight stimultor, went down into a simulated coal mine, went through a WWII German submarine and had some yummy desserts on the little bakery on the main floor.

Cool, Thanks for the tip. I've been to Chicago before but I have not seen everything that's for sure. I'll check it out.

I'm jealous, I want to go to Chicago! I'd love to go to Wrigley.

I remember when went to Chicago a while back, I suggested she check out the Shedd Aquarium and Field Museum, maybe also the Planetarium... I thought they were all cool as all hell when I saw them as a kid. I haven't made it back as an adult.

I'm getting ready to check out Shedd Aquarium. We went to an Aquarium in Hawaii and that was pretty fun. It was very relaxed, at your own pace kinda fun. I'll look into it. Thanks Devil.

Re: Where Will Summer Take You?

We're going for our one year anniversary so my daughter won't be coming along. Sucks to be her. It'll be just me and the wife for the weekend. I bookmarked the Chicago pass page. If nothing else there a some links on there for ideas. I know I'll be getting my eat on at The Chicago Diner and Pick Me Up Cafe. The first time I went to Chicago and we ate at Pick Me Up Cafe we sat next to AFI. Not bad. We'll probably go the Sears Tower. We'll go to the waterfront for sure. Probably hit up a museum. Thanks for the suggestions and if there are more please share.

I'd kill to see a Cubs game at Wrigley Field. I'll have to settle for St. Pete in FL in about 2 weeks.

Not Chicago proper, but nearby is a cool zoo, The Brookfield Zoo. It's in the town I'm originally from.

We went up to the observation deck of the Sears Tower, and as long as we waited I wish it had been a clearer day. The view wasn't great that afternoon, unfortunately. I was pretty excited to just walk the streets and act non-touristy for a while. But then we stumbled onto the spot where Historic Route 66 ends, and I had to get a photograph of me under the sign. Oops, I was a tourist for a minute I guess!

Re: Where Will Summer Take You?

I went to the Sears Tower too. Awesome view. Funny story though. I carry a knife every day, every where. My best friend does too. So we roll into Sears Tower and realize we have to go through security. Those dudes messed with us so much. They opened our knives asked us why we needed knives like that. At the time I owned a Spyderco similar to this one.

I mean they had a point. Any way after about 15 or so minutes of giving us the third degree they let us go up and they held onto our knives. When we left they gave them back as promised.

Now I own this knife but will leave it at home this time. Or at least leave it in the hotel room.

Re: Where Will Summer Take You?

I'm the same way, I always carry a knife. For a while now its been a Home Depot simple utility where the razor blades can be replaced. Before that it was very much like the second one you posted. I hate the idea of not having it, going anywhere w/ security is a pain. That, and the steel-toed boots I wear everyday...

The only stupid question is the one that remains unasked
