Wow... please direct me!

Guys, I am loving GuG! I originally came here for MySpace info but now I'm completely sucked in to the geek world. There is so much info here that I have no idea where to start. Can someone please direct me to a book, or something so I can build a foundation and actually be able to use the info provided here?

I've got basic computer knowledge but I want to become a geek! Help Me please!

One of my instructors once made me read the Microsoft End User License Agreement (EULA) front to back....

I think to be good in computers you first have to specialize then branch out from there. Take the first strength that you have with computers and build on it. As you become more knowledgeable about that one aspect, you'll find that there is a "connectivity" between all aspects of computing.

So you start building on the second strength...and so on. The one beautiful thing about this field is that there is no end to learning. Even if you think you know everything that there is to know about computing, it all changes within a year or less.

Insofar as a book...I recommend Google. Seriously, I used to have my nose buried in a book all the time until I started making computers an occupation.

Even now, I can think of five/ten items that I need to research on a search's never ending.

Another nice thing about this forum is that if you think you may have some helpful knowledge , feel free to chime in. If the advise helps and doesn't harm, we generally let it stand on it's own two feet.

Believe me, when your reputation is at stake for the world to tend to do a little research. That would help you immensely.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

"So where's the data?" "The data? The data is in the freezer."

Conversation with a co-worker after a failed hard drive had been placed in the freezer to stiffen the bearings for one last run.

Re: Wow... please direct me!

hi strike, glad that you found us here at gug. i have been a member for 10 months now. i came here totally ignorant of computer technology, and it would not be an exaggeration to say i have learned 10x what i knew, and i still feel like i just have a speck of the knowledge that is available. i started with very basic learning. downloading, uploading, emailing and from the very basic, i went to things like trackers and blocking trackers. right now i am learning about html, and i know there's much more after that. well, welcome, and we'll look forward to hearing from you again...juliek
